NYAMASHEKE - More than 140,000 RPF supporters from Nyamasheke District turned out for Paul Kagame’s campaign rally, yesterday, making it the largest rally so far.

In an overwhelming show of support to their candidate, thousands of Nyamasheke residents — some having to walk for tens of kilometres, flocked the campaign site to hear their candidate’s message.

Braving the scorching sunshine, the massive crowd danced vigorously and cheered as they welcomed the RPF candidate.

In his speech, Kagame told the residents of Nyamasheke that by emerging this year’s best performing district, they had exhibited uniqueness and showed that they are in the lead in understanding RPF’s policies.

He went on to add that the people of Nyamasheke listen, visualise what is good for them, and know how to make the right choices. The candidate commended the district for its quality coffee and tea, saying that his plan for the district is to see to it that more developmental activities are set up. 

Kagame, pointed out that schools, infrastructure, health, environment and tourism are some of the focus areas he has lined up for Nyamasheke.

The candidate told the epic crowd that he would like to see every child acquire essential education, therefore, increasing free basic education from 9 to 12 years, will be one of his key priorities.

He added that RPF has already started upgrading Nyamasheke roads and that plans are underway to facilitate the residents to effectively use Lake Kivu to their advantage.

Kagame told the rally that he is proud of Nyamasheke residents because of the way they have implemented RPF’s policies, and that it is such policies that have enabled the country to develop and shine globally.

Nepomuscene Yohana, one of Nyamasheke residents, gave a testimony of how Kagame developed the district, saying that it is now the most vibrant with a high level of development.

"We were hit by a strong earthquake two years ago and Kagame immediately ordered for a quick intervention to rescue people. He sent choppers and the injured were airlifted to the best hospitals. We thank him for that,” Yohana said.

"A lot of infrastructure, schools and hospitals were destroyed by the earthquake. He has since built new ones and this is why we will vote him back to power. We need more of those facilities”.
