NYANZA - Party for Progress and Concord (PPC) presidential hopeful Dr Alivera Mukabaramba has said that she is confident that her party will emerge victorious in the August 9 presidential polls.

Addressing a campaign rally of about 200 enthusiastic party supporters in Nyanza yesterday, Mukabaramba said that the number of party supporters is constantly rising as the campaign period enters its final stages.

"No one contests for an election if he or she is not aiming to win. Judging from the ever growing number of supporters, we are confident of sweeping the August 9 polls,” Mukabaramba told reporters.

She reiterated her promise to provide free education from kindergarten to lower secondary level, improving teacher’s welfare and the establishment of a guarantee fund to assist entrepreneurs in Small and Medium enterprises acquire bank loans.

Mukabaramba promised to improve the living conditions in villages by ensuring that they have water and electricity. In the urban areas, Mukabaramba said that she will advocate for the establishment of highrise flats to house the middle class.

Dr Mukabaramba said that if elected President, she will push for the merger of the Mutuelle de santé and RAMA health insurance plans for better delivery of health services, especially to the low income earners.

"All this will only be achieved if PPC is voted into the highest office,” Mukabaramba said amid cheers from the largely youthful crowd.

Commenting on the party’s promise to establish unemployment insurance,  Thierry Karemera, a Party member and member of the Chamber of Deputies, said that the plan is meant to help those who lose jobs not fall into abject poverty.

"Advancement in technology is reducing the demand for human labour, those who are being replaced as a result of this advancement should be planned for so as not to accelerate poverty,” Karemera said.

Epiphanie Mukampunga, a PPC supporter hailed the party’s plan to provide free education and setting up unemployment insurance.

"Education is a pillar of development; the candidate’s plan to provide it free, from Kindergarten up to lower secondary level, is very important ordinary folks like me,” she said.
