1500m final, Heat stage 3 (boys)-selected results
1 .Caleb Mwangangi Ndiku (KEN) 3:42.32
2. Alberto Imedio (ESP) 3:42.62 (PB)
3. Brett Robinson (AUS) 3:43.67
12. Yves Sikubwabo (RWA) 3:50.15(PB)
YVES Sikubwabo failed to qualify for the 1500m race at the on-going World Junior Athletics Championships in Canada after finishing a distant 12th in the decisive heat.
The 17-year-old clocked a personal best time of 3:50.15 but it was still short of the required time. The youngster was using the competition as a preparation ground for next month’s inaugural Singapore Olympic Youth Games.
Kenya’s Caleb Ndiku added a second global title to his name this year after dominating the 1500m final with a personal best 3:37.30.
Ndiku, who is the eighth Kenyan to win the title, sailed home in style. He was in the lead right from the start; completed 400m in 55.89, passed 800m in 1:55.33 before completing the final bend in 2 minutes, 56 seconds and 46 micro-seconds.
Algeria’s Abdurrahman Anou and pre-race favourite Mohammed Al-Garni from Qatar secured silver and bronze respectively.
