RWANDA’S professional golfer Jean Baptist Hakizimana yesterday scooped Rwf 200.000 cash prize after finishing second in the Ferdsult Engineering Services sponsored Mbarara Open.

The 22-year-old and his colleague Emmanuel Ruterana had been invited to take part in the two day tournament which had a prize money of Frw1.2m and though Hakizimana won day one with a round of one-over 7, Ugandan Vincent Byamukama recovered well to take day two after carding one-over-par 73.

However, Hakizimana blamed his lack of enough practice for losing the lead and also confirmed that he will travel to Mombasa next week to prepare for the KCB East African Golf Tour Mombasa leg.

"I did not train at all for the event because I received the invitation late but am proud to have finished second.
"I intend to travel to Kenya next week to prepare fully for the KCB Mombasa tourney,” the former caddie said.

Over 120 professional golfers from the region are expected to grace the KCB East African Golf Tour Mombasa event which has a prize money of Ksh7m.
