RWANDA’S U-20 team campaign started on a poor note yesterday losing 2-0 away to Congo Brazzaville in the first leg qualifier of the 2011 Africa Youth Championship to be held in Tripoli, Libya.

Mukama Kaya tore apart Rwanda’s defense to score twice past goalkeeper Emery Mvuyekure in the 22nd and 48th minutes respectively.

Amani Uwilingiyimana and Hegman Ngoma were culprits in defense and midfield as the Congolese dominated the visiting side which now faces an uphill task in the return leg in a fortnight’s time in Kigali.

The strike partnership of Jack Tuyisenge and Kipson Atuheire failed to bring any positive impact into the game. Tuyisenge was substituted by Ismail Habumugisha but they could not break a solid defense of the winners of the 2007 Africa Youth Championship.

Rwanda had their chances to get on the score sheet through Atuheire, Jean Claude Iranzi and Bienfait Kabanda but poor finishing which seems to be a general problem for Rwandan teams followed the junior wasps.

Sellas Tetteh’s team returns home tomorrow.
