NYABIHU/RUBAVU - RPF candidate, Paul Kagame, yesterday, took his campaign to the districts of Rubavu and Nyabihu in the Western Province, where tens of thousands of residents turned out to express support for the party.

It was pomp and fanfare as Kagame addressed massive gatherings in the two districts on the third day of his presidential campaign.

As with previous RPF campaign rallies, music and dance characterised the event as residents brandishing party colours joined in, with local musicians, including Alpha Rwirangira, of the Tusker Project Fame, unleashing his song supporting the candidate.

Other local artistes, including Kitoko and Tuyisinge, spiced up the function. Meanwhile, women from the Muslim community in Rubavu district, drummed and sang for the candidate, as an expression of appreciation for his leadership in uplifting them from poverty.

Kagame arrived at the campaign grounds at about 12:30 p.m., amidst deafening cheers from the massive crowd and the unique sound from the Vuvuzelas, which survived the World Cup.

In a simple and precise drama, a group of residents summarised the achievements registered under the RPF, in education, women emancipation, health, infrastructure development and socio-economic empowerment.

Before inviting the candidate to address the fired-up crowd, the campaign manager, Fidele Ndayisaba, cited some of the achievements and the development Rubavu district has registered under the RPF, including, among others, a new road and good relations with neighbours which have enabled trade to flourish.

Kagame, whose speech was punctuated by cheers from excited supporters, thanked the residents of Rubavu for the massive support shown to him and commended them for the development activities in the district.

He told the residents of Rubavu that the achievements witnessed by the district, in the last seven years, was the outcome of the choice they made in the last elections, reminding them that choosing the RPF candidate for the August polls is the right choice for the next seven years.

Kagame added that by voting RPF, they will be opting for development, peace and stability, food security, health, good education, hygiene and environment conservation, as well as a government that places a high premium on good relations with neighbours.

He reminded the residents that RPF derives its strength from the Rwandan people and that the party pursues an all embracing policy for all Rwandans.

The candidate promised that if voted into power, the RPF will continue to fuel growth, infrastructure development, fight disease, promote trade, and improve health and environment conservation. He added that his party will ensure that the dignity of all Rwandans is restored.

Later in the day, Kagame proceeded to Rambura Sector, Nyabihu district, where he addressed a mammoth rally.
Beatrice Mukamurenzi, a residents of Nyabihu gave testimony about a life changing experience, inspired by policies introduced by RPF, testifying that she has managed to get herself and her family out of poverty by pursuing government programmes, such as modern agriculture, land consolidation and crop intensification.

Kagame told the residents of Nyabihu that from the testimonies given by some of the residents, the district has prospered in the last seven years. He promised them that once he is voted back into office, the district will see more development.
