KAYONZA/ NYAGATARE/GATSIBO - Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) legislators are calling on residents in districts to vote for incumbent, President Paul Kagame, in the elections due on August 9.

At separate rallies punctuated by singing and dancing in Kayonza, Nyagatare and Gatsibo districts, on Thursday, the MPs said the RPF has achieved a lot in the past years and therefore deserved another term.

"People are aware of the good policies of RPF; they want to see it continue. We therefore want more years to do more good things for Rwandans,” MP Théoneste Safari, told residents at a rally in Rukara sector, Kayonza district.

Margarita Mwamikazi, 62, a voter, said that RPF has helped the needy and the rural poor people, which explain its popularity.

Once a leader addresses the needs of the common man, then there is no doubt that he or she becomes popular, she said.

Daniel Mwesigye, another staunch supporter, predicted that RPF will win the elections with a landslide, pointing at the multitudes at the rallies.

In Nyagatare district, party supporters clad in RPF branded T-shirts paralysed business as they marched through town to Umutara Polytechnic University where the campaign was launched.

They carried placards with words ‘Tora Kagame’ (Vote for Kagame).

"He has made the dreams of most Rwandans come true. He is a man of integrity…we shall vote Kagame a hundred percent. He qualifies to be elected our president,” one of the supporters said.

A representative of the RPF technical team, Angelina Muganza, thanked party members for their turn up.

What has been achieved in the country under the leadership of RPF and its chairman, Paul Kagame, is remarkable and qualifies him for another term, she said.
She cited the health insurance scheme (Mutuelle de Santé) and women emancipation among the party’s achievements.

Meanwhile, in Gatsibo district, MP Patricia Hajabakiga, told thousands of party supporters at Kabarore grounds to rally other people behind the party.
