FORMER Electrogaz coach Abdul Mbarushimana has joined Primus league side Police on a one-year contract deal.
Mbarushimana penned the deal after Electrogaz’s withdrawal from the league mid this week.

After sealing the deal, he said, "I’m now at Police and one of my immediate targets is to help the club finish inside the top four next season.”

Last season, Police amassed 30 points to finish in 6th place under the guidance of Jean Paul Munyankindi who joined Mukura last week.

From their 22 games, Police won eight, lost eight and drew six. Like Atraco, Electrogaz pulled out of next year’s league citing financial constraints. Electrogaz, who finished 7th in the 2009-10 season had a run of eight wins, six draws and eight losses but finished behind Police on goal difference.

Atraco’s withdrawal gave rivals Rayon Sport an automatic slot in the final of this year’s MTN Peace Cup but the Blues did not make the most of their opportunity as they lost out 1-0 against APR.

In 2007, Atraco ended APR-Rayon’s dominance as they won the league title under Sam Ssimbwa. Two years later, the club rewrote history by winning the Cecafa/Kagame Cup on their debut under the watchful eye of Sam Timbe.

Kitagenda was the hero of the night, after scoring the only goal of the match in the 15th minute. In addition to the trophy, Atraco bagged US$50,000.
