KAYONZA - The Liberal Party (PL) Presidential contender, Prosper Higiro, yesterday promised to spearhead modern farming, agriculture and trade as he campaigned in Mwiri sector, Kayonza District.

Higiro, was accompanied by the Minister of Youth, Protais Mitali, the party chairman and other party top officials.
Addressing supporters at Nyawera trading center, Higiro added that there is need to improve nutrition, especially among children and other vulnerable groups.

Once elected, he said, the party would ensure that family planning becomes more practical for the good of Rwandan society.

"The population increase must match the country’s resources, so we need working mechanisms to work it out-which PL will do once voted into office,” he said during the third day of intensive campaigning by all the four contenders to the country’s top-most office.

"The party and I know what Rwandans need after 16 years’ experience…we thus need your mandate to get to you in full swing. Our country has registered tremendous success in education, health, justice, rural development and security…PL had a hand in all these, and if I become President, I will consolidate them with modern technology.”
Citing the long lasting problem of water scarcity in Nyawera, Higiro said that once he becomes a head of state, he will give water to each village of Rwanda including Nyawera.

Francois Byabarumwanzi, the PL campaign manager, called upon all eligible voters to back their party for the development of the country.

"Our candidate has served the country in various capacities with diligence, and he is ready to use his experience to lead the nation. So just look for three stars and vote for him,” he said attracting laughter from the audience.

Maria Mukanyirigira, a resident of the area, expressed happiness about the promises, but also expressed pessimism over the possibility of bringing water to Nyawera village.

"The water problem dates back many years, I’m happy that this candidate is ready to address it. But the problem is that we have had endless promises from politicians,” she said.

The campaign continued in the neighbouring districts of Rwamagana.
