AFTER weeks of intensive preparations, the U-19 cricket team flies to Swaziland tonight to compete in the ICC/ACA Division 3 World Cup qualifiers.
The 16-man contingent which will leave aboard Kenya Airways includes 14 players, Joshua Mwanja (coach) and Eddie Balaba (team manager).
According to their travel schedule, the team will fly to Johannesburg with a brief stop-over in Nairobi. It will then travel by bus to Big Bend (the competition venue), which is a four-hour drive from Johannesburg.
During the team’s final training session yesterday, Mwanja said that apart from Bob Bashir Songa, who is nursing an injury on his left arm, the rest of the players are in good physical condition.
"I think the players are okay and ready to give their best in Swaziland,” the former Ugandan international said.
The team is captained by Audifax Byiringiro while Evode Mutuyimana is the vice.
After Ghana’s withdraw, Rwanda now has to play Nigeria, Mozambique, Gambia and hosts Swaziland.
The team’s trip has been jointly sponsored by Sonarwa, Akagera business group, MTN, Rwanda Development Board (RDB) and Banque Populaire du Rwanda (BPR).
