NYAGATARE - A group of local artists, in Nyagatare district, have launched a drive to carry out civic education on the presidential elections through music.

Unveiling their initiative at Nyagatare Hospital grounds, recently, several artistes, who included students from Umutara Polytechnic University, entertained a crowd who had turned up for civic education, with new songs with a message advocating for free and fair elections.

The event was organised by National Electoral Commission and local leaders.

Didier Habineza, an upcoming artiste and a student at the Nyagatare-based University, told The New Times that apart from civic education, he has also released a song praising the government for its achievements.

"I have two songs for presidential elections. The first one educates citizens on how to vote in a free and democratic way while the other praises the positive achievements attained by the incumbent president,” he said.

During the event, residents were briefed on the voting process and advised to turn up in big numbers on the August 9 polling day.

"I am impressed by the civic education here. I am confident that I will vote with a well informed decision,” one of the residents told The New Times.
