KAYONZA -Teachers in Kayonza district, yesterday, hailed the government for supporting them, as they marched through the streets of Kayonza town.

The teachers later held a meeting in which they highlighted the tremendous success, in the education sector since 1994.

The Permanent Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of Education, Sharon Haba, who attended the meeting, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improve the conditions of teachers.

"Teachers reflect on their past with pride…they have moved a big step forward. Look at SACCO [credit and saving scheme], the one lap top per teacher in the offing, it is encouraging,” she said.

"We want the society to respect teachers, let them be given the value they deserve. We shall give them all the incentives to ease their work.” Said the Kayonza Mayor, Damas Muhororo, thanking the teachers for their positive attitude towards development.

He observed that the fact that teachers appreciate the good things done for them is an indication that they are responsible people.

"We are here to support teachers’ expressions. You know they assist us, not only in teaching our children, but also managing the communities,” he said.

Stephen Rwamurangwa, the teachers’ representative, said that they held a peaceful march to express their gratitude to the government for uplifting them.

"As teachers, we are happy with the government and its leadership. We look at the government’s support as a motivation and we thank the government for the good work it has done in the education sector,” he said.
