The national Secondary Schools’ team departs for Kisumu today aboard Regional Bus Services ahead of the start of the regional scheduled to start this weekend in Nairobi.

Rwanda will have eight representatives at this year’s week-long regional Schools’ Championship.

They include; Groupe Scolaire de Parent, College Inyemeramihigo, Groupe Scolaire Aspej, St Joseph Muhanga, Essi-Gafunzo, Apapeki-Cyuru, Aped Rwaza and Groupe Officiel de Butare.

The 128-man Rwandan contingent is comprised of 108 students from five secondary schools and 20 officials from different schools as well the Ministry of Education and Sports.

The head of delegation who is also the Head of the Sports department in the Ministry of Education and Sports, Paterne Rwigema told Times Sport yesterday that contingent is comprised of participating students from different schools.

"It’s a big contingent comprising of students and their administrators.

 All participating schools are in a buoyant mood and we only hope for the best,” Rwigema said.

Rwigema added that the five schools received major boosts for their titles won during the national school’s final championship held in Southern Province in late July.

All schools were handed two sets of uniforms from the Ministry of Education and Sports.

The games to be competed in include; football, basketball, netball, volleyball, rugby and handball. 

Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association conducted the draws in Kisumu on Monday and the championship is set to attract 23 teams.

Uganda is sending 23 teams, Rwanda eight, Tanzania 12, Burundi six and Zanzibar four teams.

All participating schools are expected to arrive at the lakeside town not later than tomorrow, a day before the championship gets underway.
