In a bid to boost the health sector, Kigali City council has announced that it will construct seven more health centres to a tune of Rwf 1.8bn.

Bruno Rangira, KCC Director of Media and Communication revealed this yesterday in an interview with The New Times.

"They (Health Centres) are going to be built in Sectors that currently have no such facilities,” Rangira said.

The Sectors are Remera, Kimironko and Gatsata in Gasabo District, Gatenga and Kigarama in Kicukiro District and Kinyinya and Mageragere in Nyarugenge District.

"These sectors had no health centres and patients were travelling long distances, something we want to curb,” Rangira said.

Once completed, it will bring the number of health centres in Kigali city to 36.

The funds to construct health centres are part of the Rwf 3.5bn allocated to health in the city’s 2010/2011 budget.

Plans are also in place to; better equip Muhima and Kibagabaga hospitals, buy a CT scanner for the Central Hospital of Kigali (CHUK) and support the Mobile Clinic project.

With the help of the Chinese Government, Kigali City is also constructing another hospital in Masaka, Kicukiro district.
