The School of Finance and Banking (SFB), last week, signed an agreement with a Kenyan international examining body KASNEB to deliver a three- year professional course of Certified Public Accountants (CPA).

The deal was signed by James M Nyanjui, the KASNEB examination officer and SFB rector, Dr Reid Whitlock, who said the move is timely given the growing domestic demand for professional accountants.

Peter Rutaremara, the president of the  Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Rwanda (ICPAR) commended the step taken by SFB in offering market-driven courses.

Rutaremara said the country faces a shortage of professional accountants, revealing that his institution has so far registered only 130 accountants 80 percent of whom are non Rwandans.

Whitlock urged the course beneficiary students to utilize the opportunity presented to them, get the skills needed and become major players in a country’s rapid growing economy.

According to the agreement, SFB will provide tutorial services and KASNEB will examine and award certificates.
Rwandan students will benefit from the EAC provisions as they will be paying the same fees as their Kenyan counterparts.

The 40-year old KASNEB is an internationally recognized examining body especially in areas of accountancy with over 30 training centers across the world.
