The local Sports Movement will today get together to honor President Paul Kagame for his an equaled support towards sport development, especially in past seven years of his first term as a democratically elected President of Rwanda.

The occasion will take place at Amahoro indoor stadium, adjacent to the Amahoro national stadium, Remera.

According to Thierry Ntwali, the executive director of the local Olympic committee, the ceremony will draw all sports federations, leading sportsmen and women as well top government officials in a three-hour event which is aimed at recognizing Kagame’s efforts in supporting the sports fraternity.

The ceremony is set to feature sports animations; football juggling, basketball slam dunks, karate comedy, acrobatics and music show at the end due to presented by lead local singers Kitoko and Tom Close.

Under Kagame’s first term of office, Rwanda Sports Movement recorded several successes that included making maiden appearance at the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia.

Rwanda hosted the 2009 Africa Youth championship and the success of that tournament was the major reason the Confederation of African Football (CAF) chose Rwanda to host the next year’s U-17 African Youth Championship.

Basketball, volleyball, boxing, rugby, athletics, table tennis and cricket to mention but a few took part in different and global championships thus raising the standard of sports in the country.

In the past seven years, Rwanda sports movement has grown to be active than the previous years where it was too dormant, according to analysts.
