RUSIZI — There has been a big turn up of children for vaccination against measles at various sites in Rusizi district.

According to health officials, over 60,000 children were immunized during the three-day vaccination which started on July 16. It targeted children between 9 months and 15 years of age.

"We had 36 immunisation sites at various schools and health centres. Basing on the records from all these centres, the turn-out was remarkable,” said Dr.Theophile Dushimiyimana, the head of Gihundwe Hospital.

Children and parents were also trained on the dangers and symptoms of measles.

"Measles is a dangerous disease that spreads in a way that is unavoidable, that’s why it’s important to be immunised against it,’ said Emmanuel Nzaramba, incharge of immunisation in the Ministry of Health.
