The Bank of Kigali (BK) this week announced that it plans to open more branches across the country. This is part of the general trend witnessed in the banking sector across the country in the past few years.

New entrants into the sector; both local and international, have helped expand the banking industry. Apart from a wide variety of banking service providers to choose from, service delivery in many banks is steadily improving.

Rwandans need to take advantage of the expanding sector to access banking services. This will help many in the countryside access loans to start and develop their business.

The expanding sector should also be used by retail business people, farmers and agribusinesses in the rural areas where banks are spreading their services.

This will not only help expand their businesses, but it will open new investment options.

It is also important that banks sensitize the people about their products. This will help bring about change in the way some handle money and avoid resistance to change.

With all these developments in the sector, it is critical that banks make good customer care a high priority in their operations. Good customer care remains a challenge to many service providers, the banking sector included.

This is key to retaining and attracting more customers who are vital for growth and further expansion of the sector.
