Rwanda Mountain Tea Company on Friday awarded the best tea growers’ cooperatives with exotic cows.

The guest of honour, Dr Agnes Karibata revealed that government has set aside funds to facilitate tea growers as they wait for the harvest season.

"The government will continue to support the tea farmers, and you should strive to double production in order to fully utilise use of the modern factories,” Karibata told residents.
Gideon Ruboneza, the Mayor of Ngororero, said that he managed to study because of the tea growing activities.

"The school fees and all daily expenses were from this company (Rubaya Tea Factory). Because of tea, I managed to study and excel in school. Now I am the Mayor,” Ruboneza said.

"I would like to call upon residents of this district to grow more tea”

Eleven exotic cows, clothing, gum boots, and other agricultural materials were given to the farmers who told the agriculture ministry to help them with new seeds and basic infrastructures such as power in schools and roads to transport their produce to the factories.

"The company has invested more than Rwf 6 billion to expand Nyabihu and Rubaya industries, to bring in modern machines and increase production as the relationship with farmers flourishes,” Rwanda Mountain Tea head, Egide Gatera, said.

Karibata urged residents who got cows to always share the benefits with others and put more effort on growing tea since it has proven to be a great contributor to the development of the country and the community.

Nyabihu and Rubaya Tea Factories organised the event.
