RWAMAGANA - The Minister of Internal Security, Sheikh Musa Fazil Harerimana, handed over a three bed-roomed house to Police Constable, Abdoulkalim Kazoba-during the commissioning of the Police Housing Scheme on Thursday.

Addressing senior Police officers at the function in Gishari sector, Rwamagana district, the minister said the housing project was a milestone towards having permanent homes for Police personnel.

"The nature of the institution makes police officers mobile…but that doesn’t mean the whole family shouldn’t be stable. The Police housing scheme is therefore meant to address such situations,” he said.

Eric Kayiranga, the Police spokesman, told The New Times that the police have a long term plan to build 2000 houses in the whole country 120 of which will be in Rwamagana.

"This is a long term program in which the majority of the officers will benefit. Our bank CSS Zigama is our main partner, individuals are given loans that they pay in 7 years,” he said.

PC Abdoulkalim Harerimana, an instructor at Gishari Police Training School, said that he was so pleased to be the first beneficiary of the housing scheme.

"This is a great house for a young man like me. It inspires me to marry earlier than had planned,” he said causing laughter.

The house is estimated to cost Rwf8.5 million. The hard cash spent is Rwf 5 million, while the rest is the equivalent labour provided during the Police week.
