RWAMAGANA - The Minister of Internal Security, Sheikh Musa Faziri Harerimana yesterday urged over 2000 new police constables to keep law and order during the forthcoming Presidential elections.

He said this while presiding over the pass-out at Gishari Police Training School in Rwamagana District, Eastern Province.

The minister said that increasing the number of the force is in line with the government’s commitment to provide security for its people and their property.

The new policemen bring the toal strength of the force to 9,000. The Commissioner General of Police, Emmanuel Gasana, reiterated the importance of a professional police force to maintain law and order in the country.

"The basic training course you have passed, coupled with the discipline and vigilance, exhibited in the Rwanda National Police, will no doubt do great job for the people of Rwanda,” he said.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Bruce Munyambo, the Commandant of Gishari Police Training School, revealed that trainees received enough training to help them work as professionals.

He however, requested for more support in the areas of ICT and recreation.

"We need enough computers, playgrounds and general improvement of accommodation,” he said.

This was the 6th intake since the inception of the Rwanda National Police ten years ago.
