Minister commissions Muhanga TTC

MUHANGA - the State Minister for Primary and Secondary Education, Dr. Matthias Harebamungu, Wednesday commissioned new buildings at Muhanga Teacher Training Collegein Shogwe Sector.

The facility worth over Rwf100m, was constructed in three months under the support of Zoe Ministries, and Christians of the First United Methodist Church, Manfield Texas in collaboration with the Shogwe Anglican Church of Rwanda.

Harebamungu hailed Zoe Ministries for extending their love to the people Rwanda and encouraged Rwandan teachers to use the facility in a bid to lay a good education foundation in the country.

"This gift is a sign of friendship and strengthens the partnership between the government of Rwanda and key partners in education.  Rwandans should learn from this example and use the facilities to build strong background of education so as to attain development,” Harebamungu said.

The State Minister also hailed the school administration for its outstanding hygiene standards and promised to support them in their bid to expand and equip the institution with more facilities and infrastructure.

On behalf of Zoe Ministries, Rev. Mike Rams, said that the donation is an extension of the love and bringing, in a realistic sense, the kingdom of God to the people of Rwanda. 

The Mayor of Muhanga, Yvonne Mutakwasuku, stated that the facility will seal the district’s bid to improve on the quality of educationalists and bridge the gap of lack of teachers in the schools.

Mutakwasuku hailed the Anglican Church for providing land and Zoe Ministries for being pragmatic in their mission.
The occasion coincided with celebrations to mark Muhanga District Education Day.

The district education department rewarded the best schools and students of the 2009 National Examinations, and model schools with outstanding standards of education guidelines.

The district also rewarded Zoe Ministries and François-Xavier Bagnoud (FXB) International, among the outstanding partners in promoting education in the district.

The Muhanga teacher also presented their 2010-11 education performance contracts and strategies, which include: increased students performance and girl child education, improved hygiene and girl students outreach programmes, fighting HIV/Aids and Gender Based Violence, promoting use of English and ICT skills, environmental protection and civic education among others.
