In an effort to curb youth unemployment, the Cooperative for the self Employment and Development of the Youth (COJAD), yesterday provided 10 motorcycles on loan to 10 members of the commercial motorcycle taxi’ association, ASSETAMORWA.

COJAD Assistant Director of Administration and Finance, Cyprien Kananura, said that each motorcycles cost Rwf1.2m.

Kananura added that for someone to qualify for the loan, he or she should have been a member of COJAD for at least three months and raised 25 percent of the price of the motorcycle.

He said that so far his cooperative has provided loans to 68 members. Alphonse Nkuranga, The Executive Secretary for National Youth Council, commended COJAD for providing the support saying that this would improve their social and economic welfare.

The chairman of ASSETAMORWA, Dieudonne Nteziyaremye, said that the beneficiaries hail from Nyabugogo zone adding that of the 68 motorcycles COJAD has financed, 48 have already been paid for.

"I thank JOJAD and the government in general of enabling me to get my own motorcycle because the one I was using belongs to someone else, and I am optimistic that it will improve my life,” said Jean Francois Mushimimana, one the beneficiaries.
