The national utilities Corporation, Rwanda Water and Sanitary Corporation has commissioned a Rwf100m water reservoir to ease water shortages in Nyakabanda, Kigali, Nyamirambo and Mageragere sectors in Nyarugenge District.

According to the Director of water in Rwanda Electricity Corporation and Rwanda Water and Sanitary Corporation (RECO-RWASCO), Theoneste Minani, the construction work was completed in five months.

"We urge residents of the area to maintain this water tank because it’s very expensive to construct and the more you protect it, the more it will be of benefit to you” Minani said.

The residents’ representative Agnes Mukeshimana, commended the corporation for extending the service, saying that it would improve their living standards.

"Most of the residents in this area have been moving long distances to Nyabarongo River in search of water, and this has been a big problem because we have been spending between 3 to 4 hours to and from the river” Mukeshimana said.
