NORTHERN PROVINCE

MUSANZE — The district education authorities have ordered the closure of two secondary schools due to lack of adequate accommodation facilities and poor sanitation.

College Baptiste St. Vincent (CBC)-Nyange and Ecole Secondaire-Nyakinama reportedly failed to meet the minimum standards for an education institution. The schools lacked toilets, bathrooms and enough class rooms.

Students in the boarding section at Ecole Secondaire-Nyakinama were transferred to other schools due to inadequate accommodation facilities.

According to the director of education, Fidel Nzigira, the schools would open when they meet the required standards. Apparently teachers and parents promised to work together to reopen the schools.

CBC-Nyange, a religious founded school which started in 1998 has been accommodating over 350 students. Affected students previously admitted to the school through government arrangement have been transferred to ESTB-Busogo and ESSA-Muhoza.

Nzigira said nothing will compromise their stance to close schools that do not measure to the required standards.
