KIGALI - Senior Police officers have called on the general public to play a key role in maintaining public order and security, particularly during the forthcoming presidential elections set for August 9.

The officers; Chief Superintendant Elisa Kabera (Director of Inspectorate), Chief Superintendant Vincent Sano, (Commanding Officer of Traffic Police) and Chief Superintendant Damas Gatare (Director of Community Policing) were speaking recently during a live televised call-in show.

Gatare commended the general public for the existing cooperation with the Rwanda National Police (RNP) in preventing crime and tracking offenders.

He urged Rwandans to use the existing Community Policing Committees and share information about potential security threats.

Sano informed the public that those who sat for theoretical driving exams can access their results on the Police website, and that results for practical exams would also soon go online.

He urged people whose driving licenses are still in the custody of the traffic police head office to pick them.
The traffic chief warned against over-speeding and drunk driving, and emphasized the need to always use safety belts.

On his part, C/Supt. Kabera, said that RNP will stop at nothing to enforce its zero-tolerance to corruption. He said anyone with a complaint against a police officer can call the toll free number 112, or use suggestion boxes available at Police stations.
