RUTSIRO - Residents of Rutsiro district, who formed handcrafts cooperative, say they are reaping profits after improving their marketing strategy.
The artists, who make beautiful household property including chairs and tables from dry banana fibres, have been able to uplift their standards of living and
economic welfare.
Joseph Bimemyimana, the president of the cooperative society, explains that through working together, their products are now sold at a relatively high price
which enables them to get reasonable profits.
"We have been able to live comfortable lives, taken our children to school and the future seems even brighter. Each of our members has significantly contributed to this development,” Bimemyimana said.
He revealed that there are 113 members, 36 of whom are women.
Marie Jose Nirere, a mother of four, and one of the members said, "Operating as a cooperative society helps us to find readily available market for our products than working individually.” "This has helped us to improve our lives.”
