DESPITE a few errors here and there, Rwanda’s Celestin Ntagungira a.k.a Abegga, who was one of the referees at the just ended 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa has no doubt that the one-month event was a success.

In a brief interview with Times Sport, Abegga noted that the officiating was spot on and that there were very few errors.

"This was my last World Cup and I must say I enjoyed every minute of it,” he said.

"As always, there were so many close calls to make as regards off-sides, handball and tackles but overall, I think we did well.”

The 44-year-old was on the sidelines for Group E’s encounter between Denmark and Japan and the New Zealand – Slovakia game. He was also a reserve referee for the Argentina-South Korea and Argentina – Mexico ties.
He officiated alongside the South African pair of Damon Jerome and Enock Molefe.

Abegga has officiated at several big tournaments including the 2006, 2008 and 2010 Nations Cup as well as the 2006 World Cup. In 2008, he officiated at the Beijing Olympic Games in China.

Abegga now hopes to become a Fifa instructor.
