Spanish cycling team Burgos BH are in talks with rider Moïse Mugisha in an attempt to secure his services.

The 26-year-old is a free agent after his contract with South African side ProTouch expired in December.

The team is currently facing a financial crisis due to lack of sponsors, prompting the likes of Mugisha and teammate Didier Munyaneza to consider their future elsewhere.

Mugisha officially confirmed his departure from ProTouch on Saturday, January 7, via his social media platforms, putting his two-year stay at the team to an end.

"Thank you very much, you gave me many opportunities to show what I can do, I hope to find another team,” he said.

Mugisha had a year to remember in 2022 after winning three consecutive races. He won the Royal Nyanza Race on December 30, just two months after winning Kibeho Race and Musanze Gorilla Race.

After winning the Royal Nyanza race in December, the rider told journalists that he is in talks with various teams and hinted that Spain is likely to be his next destination.

Times Sports has established that a deal has been reached between Burgos BH and Rwandan rider who is with the rest of Team Rwanda roster preparing for the highly-anticipated Tour du Rwanda 2023.

The Spanish team competed in Tour du Rwanda 2022 but they are not among the teams that will participate in this year’s race that will start on February 19.

Mugisha started his career with Club Les Amis Sportifs de Rwamagama before he went on to ride for Fly Cycling Club, La Roche-sur-Yon Vendée Cyclisme and Skol Adrien Cycling Academy and ProTouch in which a number of Rwanda riders plied their trade in the past years.

Other Rwandan riders who previously played for the South African team include Samuel Mugisha, Jean Eric Habimana, Jean Claude Nzafashwanayo and Emmanuel Iradukunda.

By winning the eighth stage of the 2022 edition, Mugisha became the first Rwandan rider to win a stage in Tour du Rwanda since Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) sanctioned the race was 2.1 back in 2019.
