NEW Kigali Golf Club president Innocent Rutamu has promised to lure more youth in the game of golf.
In a brief interview with Times Sport, Rutamu conceded that building the game around the youth was key.

"It is essential that we build the game around the youth. That is the only way we are going to have quality golfers in the future.” 

Ahead of this year’s East African Golf Challenge scheduled for September in Kigali, Rutamu, who replaced Marcel Byusa at the helm of the club, also noted that upgrading the golf course and club house were high on the club’s agenda.

Other activities on the agenda include creating a national golf federation, attracting more sponsors, and increasing the number of professional golfers.

Till date, Rwanda boasts of two professional golfers in Emmanuel Ruterana and Jean Baptist Hakizimana.

Other members on the new executive include Dr. Richard Gakuba (vice president), Rajan Tiwari (Captain), Davis Kashaka (Secretary), Bosco Mugabe (treasurer), Linda Genny (PRO), Louis Kamanzi (Vice Captain), Joseph Semwaga (Course member), Siula Kenam (House member) and Rehema Kashaka (lady captain).

Meanwhile, this afternoon, golfers will compete in a cameo event dubbed ‘lady captain clubnite.’ The event is jointly sponsored by ex-lady captain –Vicky Suazo Farina, Ernst & Young, Serena Hotel, Mille Collines, the Indian Chef, MTN, Skol, Pembe, Macmillan and Sam Nkusi.
