At last Rayon Sport’s General Assembly convened to put in place a new committee for the next two years.The elections that where held on Sunday ushered in new faces, though Mr. Paul Muvunyi retained his seat as president of Rayon Sports.

The exercise that begun at 8.30 a.m and ended at 2.30 p.m was conducted by Mr. Paul Ruhamyambuga, Rayon Sports’ patron, with the help of other electoral committee members.

Ruhamyambuga’s committee was responsible for selecting potential candidates to take over the next committee and to organize the elections among others.
 
On several occasions the meeting was put into disarray by members, over the choices selected by Ruhamyambuga and his team.

In fact Mr. Paul Muvunyi and Nduwumwe Farouk (Secretary General) were the only members accepted by club members.

After the elections, Ruhamyambuga said "democracy took its path today, and this is the best way our (electoral committee) efforts can be paid off.”Said Habiyakare was elected first vice- president, though he refused to stand due to long standing differences with the elected president Mr. Paul Muvunyi.

After a series of discussions with Mr. Muvunyi, the two buried the hatchet and hugged each other amid thunderous applause.

He was later elected unanimously after Senator Munyabajisha Valence pulled out of the race.The post of second vice president was the most contested post.

Mr. Itangishake Patrick beat his rival Mr. Karemera Vedaste despite the fact that Karemera earlier in his speech looked to have the most supporters.  Rwanda television’s Nduwumwe was the other victor and was elected General Secretary unopposed. He pledged to help advance the club name and image.

Also unopposed was Prosper Muhirwa, who took the treasure’s post., Byiringiro Clement Emmanuel, an ardent Rayon fan won the post of club chairman.

This was after he had been denied to stand by the electoral committee, basing on the fact that he had stood for an earlier post, yet the club’s rules clearly deny one to stand for two different posts.

In his speech Muvunyi asked the club to "unite and forget the misfortunes of the past years.” He also said, "A lot of destruction has been going on, let’s try and do some construction”.

However, his most controversial pledge came in form of promised to retire if the club fails to win this year’s league title.

Raoul Shungu also addressed the congress, and it looked like as if his stay with the club was already resolved.

The club has also put a fund to raise money that will help retain his services and so far, Frw2, 100,000 has been collected.

Rekeraho named team manager
The Former Organizing Secretary in the national football body, Ferwafa, James Rekeraho has been named as the acting Rayon team manager replacing Rene Kalimunda.

The ex-international custodian has been a key figure on the local football scene and Rayon are confident that his experience as a former player would go a long way to help in taking the club to another level.

Early last year, Rekeraho had been working at the local football body parted ways with Ferwafa after he was accused of embezzling federation’s funds.
