JOSEPH Semwaga scooped a trophy and a return ticket to Nairobi courtesy of RwandAir after winning this year’s Captains Cup at Kigali Golf Club.

Five birdies on Saturday and three more on Sunday ensured that the handicap 03 golfer stroked a combined 149net (71 on day one and 78 on day two) to cruise home with a six-stroke margin.

Andrew Nkwandi carded 155net to take second place while Aaron Musonda, Thomas Eberhert and Davis Kashaka rounded off the top five slots with 158net, 159net and 174net respectively.

In Group two (Handicap 10-18), Philip Gashaija secured a trophy and a return air ticket to Johannesburg after carding 145net. Steve Caley pipped Francois Rugomboka a.k.a Cesco to second place on count back after the pair had tied on 148net.

In the ladies category, former lady captain Vicky Suazo showed that she still has a lot to offer on the course as she stroked 68 stable ford points to edge Linda Mugeni by a point. Suazo was rewarded with a return air ticket to Entebbe while Mugeni settled for dinner at Khana Khazana.

With the East Africa Golf Challenge round the corner, national team players continued their build up with Leonard Nkurunziza topping the pack on 145net.

Francois Habimana and Patrick Uwumukiza followed closely with 146net and 147net.

This year’s edition went down as the most lucrative after attracting sponsorship from RwandAir, MTN, Kivu Sun, Kigali Serena, Mille Collines, Computer Point, Khana Khazana, Republika, Indian Chef, Fotolab and Pfunda tea.
