The Irish community in Rwanda, over the weekend, donated Rwf 3 million to child headed households in Kinyanya, Gasabo district grouped under Nsanga association.

The association brings together about 50 children heading households in a village of over 560 survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

Handing over the donation, Kieran Holmes who represented the Irish Community said that it was a fulfillment of their plan aimed at supporting two projects.

He said; "This support is what remained after donating to Kibagabaga hospital in May from our annual contribution of the St Patrick’s Day celebrations marked early this year.”

The Executive Secretary Kinyinya Sector, Raymond Mberabahizi, who received the donation on behalf of the association thanked and promised to follow-up to ensure the fund is allocated as planed.

According to Jacques Sezikeye, the acting president of the association, the donation will be used to start income generating activities to ensure that it benefits the entire village.  

"The best way to make use of this fund so as to benefit these children is to start up small income generating projects,” he said.

According to Sezikeye, government has build over 100 houses to help resettle homeless people due to the effects of genocide.
