Dutch skipper hoping for dream ending in World Cup final

HOLLAND captain Giovanni van Bronckhorst says that he would love a ‘fairytale ending’ by defeating favourites Spain in today’s World Cup final.

The full-back believes that the time has finally arrived for the Dutch to win the glittering prize for the very first time after twice finishing as runners-up back in the 1970s.

The 35-year-old believes that Holland will be crowned world champions at Soccer City and is clearly not frightened by the prospect of taking on the European champions.

"It is our tournament. I have sometimes had the feeling that we cannot lose. We have not always played very well, but we have scored at pivotal moments.”

The former Rangers, Arsenal and Barcelona star will be assistant coach for the Under-21 side from next season and says that he hopes to avoid the disappointment he felt in previous forays for Holland.

Van Bronckhorst, who will win his 106th cap against Spain, says he has seen how the Oranje success has lit up the country back home.

"I saw on television the joyous scenes that swept the country when I scored that goal (against Uruguay).
