Residents hail RDF dentists

Residents of Karongi have welcomed the ongoing Army Week, during which dentists from Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) are offering free treatment. Last week, over 300 people were treated by the team of four dentists at Rubengera Health Centre, Karongi District.

Rwandan refugees in Uganda to be repatriated
Over 1,321 Rwandan refugees, who fled to Uganda between March and April this year and were denied refuge status, are to be repatriated this month by the Ugandan officials in partnership with the government of Rwanda.

This was revealed early this week by  Gen Marcel Gatsinzi, the Minister of refugees, Disaster and Preparedness, in an interview with  The New Times "We gave them the whole of last month to voluntarily return home but they did not comply… we are there fore going to repatriate them ourselves before this month ends,” he said.

Civilian –military partnership vital for development-Kagame

President Paul Kagame applauded the collaboration between the army and other citizens in various socio-economic activities that have boosted the welfare of the Rwandan people. Kagame made the remarks, Tuesday this week after inspecting works carried out by the Rwanda defence Force (RDF) in Muhanga District, during the Army week.

PEFA results satisfactory

The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, John Rwangombwa, said that the results achieved in the last three years of implementing the Public Expenditure and Finance Accountability Assessment (PEFA) in the country, are satisfactory. Rwangombwa made the remarks on Tuesday while officially opening a two-day PEFA training workshop in Kigali, which aimed to inform the stakeholders of the nature, purpose and content of PEFA.

Customs officials at Rwanda-Tanzanian boarder of Rusumo say regional traders have started enjoying tax cuts for goods originated from the East African Community ever since the common market protocol became operational on July 1.

Goods wholly or partially produced by member states, are given preferential treatment provided the owner carry valid EAC Certificate of Origin.

UN extends ICTR judges mandate

The United Nations Security Council has extended the terms of offices for judges of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR).The Security Council agreed to extend the mandates of all permanent and nine ad litem Judges until December, 31, 2010 or on completion of their assignments.

The council also called upon relevant states to increase their effort to bring Felicien Kabuga, Augustin Bizimana, Protais Mpiranyi and other indictees of the International Tribunal to justice.
