It is so sad that while explaining the general situation in Kibaki’s country and particularly the ongoing post-election violence that has rocked the East African nation following a widely disputed presidential poll held over a week ago, Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki has written to President Paul Kagame.

Kibaki explained to President Kagame about the violence and instability that erupted after his main rival Odinga claimed vote rigging.

In my own opinion, innocent Kenyans who are losing their lives under unclear circumstances should have known the explanation before our president.

The only unfortunate thing is that he did not bother to explain this to them and Kibaki should be ready to set up a national unity government to also work closely with the new parliament which is dominated by Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) if Odinga accepts defeat.

What hurts me most is that hundreds of thousands have been displaced and close to 400 people killed in the violent protests since Kibaki was announced winner of the election and the post-election violence has also impacted on Kenya’s neighbours with fuel shortages disrupting transport and trade in Rwanda, Uganda, southern Sudan and eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

But that’s not the worst part; all these leaders we call Panafricanists are quiet.
