GATSIBO - The second phase of cattle vaccination against Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (CBPP) disease has kicked off in the Gatsibo district.

Dr. Augustin Zimulinda, the head of Rwanda Animal Resources Development Authority (RARDA) in Eastern Province, announced this in an interview with The New Times on Thursday.

"We have started the second phase and CBPP is our main target. It is the most dangerous disease for cattle- although other diseases like lumpy skin diseases and foot and mouth diseases will be treated as well,” he said.
CBPP disease kills mainly cross breeds.

Zimulinda added the vaccination will be done across the whole province within a period of six months.

The second phase will then be followed by the third phase that will last for a period of nine months, he said, calling upon residents to be on alert and monitor their stocks.

The province was recently hit by livestock diseases.
