RWANDA’S U-19 preparations for the upcoming ICC Africa Under-19 Cricket World Cup Qualifier Division 2 tournament in Swaziland have been boosted by financial support from Akagera Business Group and the National Olympics Committee (RNOC).
According to reports from the local cricket governing body, RCA, Akagera parted with Rwf0.7m while RNOC offered Rwf550, 000.
But with a budget of Rwf3.6m, RCA is heavily counting on support from the Ministry of Sports and Culture (Minispoc).
RCA recently named the final 14-man team for the event, which is the first of two qualifying rounds for the 2012 U-19 World Cup.
The team is currently undergoing daily training sessions at Kicukiro under the guidance of Joshua Mwanja (ex-Ugandan international) and team manager Eddie Balaba Mugarura.
Rwanda’s opponents in Swaziland will include Nigeria, Ghana, Mozambique,Gambia and hosts. After a round robin format of play, the top team will automatically qualify for the final qualification phase which has the likes of Uganda, Kenya, Namibia and Tanzania among others.
The five-day event which throws off on July 26 will be held at three venues; Ubombo Country Club (turf wicket), Sisekelo High School (synthetic surface) and U-Tech (synthetic surface).
