Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Uganda, Frank Mugambage, has lashed out at Genocide deniers, saying that Rwanda will continue to hold them accountable in the interest of national security.

Mugambage made the remarks in Kampala on Sunday during celebrations to mark the 16th Liberation Day.
"Let us all be reminded that Genocide denial is criminalized in many countries the world over,” he told a huge audience gathered at the Sheraton Hotel.

He pointed out that in Rwanda, holding Genocide deniers accountable is part of fighting impunity and ensuring that the ‘Never Again’ notion is upheld.

"Accountability is and will remain a major tenet of the governance regime and deviants from the established laws will be held accountable whoever they may be”,
Mugambage commended the good bilateral relations between Rwanda and Uganda, adding that both countries have a lot in common and that the relationship between the people of both countries is unique.

Uganda’s Minister of State for International Cooperation, Okello Oryem, who was also the guest of honour at the event, said that the relations between the two countries are underlined by a strong commitment to development, peace and security in the region.

"We are very proud of what we have been able to achieve together at bilateral, regional and multilateral levels. We wish to reaffirm our determination to consolidate further the existing excellent relations,” Oryem said.

The event was also attended by various heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Uganda, and members of the Banyarwanda Cultural Development Association (UMUBANO).
