RECORDS have been set and broken in domestic cricket but if the latest records will be trampled anytime soon remains to be seen. In the opening match of this year’s Sulfo cricket league, Challengers piled 343, breaking their previous record score of 333.
Sairam Gopalan also set a new record individual score of 150 while his 215 partnership with Evode Mutuyimana (62) also went down as a new record.
Shijith added a quick fire 37 as the defending champions cruised past 300.
In reply, Kicukiro College of Technology (KCT) was bundled out for a paltry 118 thanks to excellent bowling from Joseph Tuyishime and Mehboob Sheikh who picked eight wickets between them.
Eric Dusingizimana fought a losing battle with a defiant 79 before he was finally run out.
Challengers, who also secured batting points (0.5) after Gopalan’s century, now top Group A with 4.5points.
Titans, Young Tigers and Strikers complete the group while Group B consists of Kigali Cricket Club (KCC), Indorwa, Impala, Right Guards and National University of Rwanda (NUR).
After a round robin preliminary round, the top two sides in each group qualify for the semi-finals.
Till date, Sulfo cricket league is still rated as the most prestigious event on the local calendar.
