GICUMBI - During the village level (Mudugudu) celebrations to mark the Liberation Day, local leaders in Byumba Sector, Gicumbi district applauded the government for promoting social and economic development over the last 16 years.

At Gacurabwenge and Ruyaga villages, the local leaders said that the improved justice system, economic revival and enhanced social welfare were results of good governance.

"Liberation has brought us good governance, where human rights, unity and reconciliation, decentralization of services and democracy has been ushered in by the government of National Unity,” Byumba Sector Executive Secretary, Jean Marie Vianey Gahano said.

Gahano urged the residents, who had converged at Gacurabwenge sector, to teach their children about patriotism, saying that it was the key to a bright future.

The head of Ruyaga village, Damascene Nsengimana, said that the introduction of mediation committees (Abunzi) and Gacaca courts helped to settle residents’ domestic disputes and cleared many pending cases of genocide suspects countrywide.

Nsegimana further encouraged the residents to turn up in large numbers and cast their votes in the forthcoming Presidential elections.

"Electing a responsible and patriotic president is the only way to guarantee a bright future for Rwandans,” he said.
