KAMONYI - Staff of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, last week, donated ten hybrid heifers worth over Rwf4.3m to genocide orphans in Gacurabwenge, Kamonyi District.

Enata Dusenge, the Director General of Corporate Services, handed over the donation on behalf of Minister John Rwangombwa.

The donation also included livestock drugs worth over Rwf200,000.

Dusenge revealed that the heifer project was chosen by the orphans themselves, and the funds used to purchase the livestock were collected from staff as part of the ministry’s contribution to the welfare of needy genocide orphans.

"The staff of the finance ministry care for genocide orphans and they think that this project is sustainable and will improve the welfare of the beneficiaries,” Dusenge said.
"We (Ministry staff) are proud of this gesture, which symbolizes a pact between both of us.”

On behalf of the ministry staff, Dusenge promised to advocate for more support for the orphans; including water and electricity supply, and vocational training for the school dropouts.

Over 105 children grouped under Imararungu Association, are set to benefit from the livestock. The latest donation comes as an addition to the support previously offered by various donors, according to Martin Havugimana, the representative of the orphans.

Havugimana hailed the finance ministry for the support which he said would improve their living standards.

"The donation is worth thanking for because it’s a sign of love and care. The cows will help us to get milk and manure for our farms.”

The event was also marked by interaction between the public servants and the orphans; through songs, dance and drama.
