KARONGI - Residents say they are excited and have welcomed the ongoing army week, during which dentists from Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) are offering free treatment.

Last week, over 300 people had been treated by a team of four dentists at Rubengera Health Centre, Karongi district.

"This treatment is much needed especially in such rural areas. This is an opportunity that comes once in a while and I am excited to benefit,” Théo Kabera, one of the residents said.

He explained that dental health services are rare and sometimes very expensive to get which is why the initiative of the uniformed personnel was very welcome.

According to Capt Halifa Ndayisabye, the leader of the medical team, such activities are aimed at creating close relationships with the local population.

"The army is supposed to maintain national security but that is not all. The health of the population is also our concern,” Ndayisabye, a dentist at Kanombe Military Hospital said.
