KAMONYI - Residents of Nyamiyaga sector, Kamonyi district have hailed the government for its efforts to increase access to health care in rural areas.
The residents made the remarks, last week, during the commissioning of Nyamiyaga health post.
The center will serve over 15,000 residents from Ngoma and Kidahwe cells, providing basic health care, including family planning services and HIV voluntary counselling and testing .
The Executive Secretary of Nyamiyaga, Jean de Dieu Nkurunziza, said that the opening of the health post was timely as it will increase family planning services and improve access to health services.
"There is hope that residents’ access to family planning will increase from 34.5% because the services have come nearer to Nyamiyaga residents unlike in the past,” Nkurunziza said.
"The center comes as a solution to the long distance traveled by residents and it’s located in the middle of the sector which enables all residents to access its services,” one resident said.
The premises of the new health post are currently being rented, but sector officials are hopeful that they will get a permanent building by the end of this year, with the help of the district.
