An 11-day Egyptian products’ expo which is taking place at the Mini Stadium was yesterday officially opened in Kigali by Monique Nsanzabaganwa the Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry.

The expo showcases a wide range of Egyptian products such as furniture, sanitary ware, food stuffs, decorative chandeliers, non woven wall to wall carpets, kitchen ware, house hold products, home appliances and so much more.

Opening the expo, Nsanzabaganwa said that this is not the first time that the Egyptians have exhibited their products in Rwanda and that this shows the interest of the Egyptian business community in investing in the country.

"This is a good opportunity for Rwandans to know the Egyptian products so that they can create a strong business linkage between the two countries,” the minister noted.

She added that Egypt is a member of COMESA (Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa) and its products enter into the Rwandan Market freely and vice versa.

"We are planning to create a strong business partnership with Egypt so that we can attract Egyptian investors to come and invest in our country,” she said.

Nzasabaganwa revealed that the country is considering setting up Rwanda-Egypt Chamber of Commerce, adding that this will bring the private sector bodies of the two countries together and enhance business relations.

She emphasized that the government will continue supporting the good relationship between both countries.
According to Mona Omar, the Assistant Minister of Foreign affairs for African Affairs, the Egyptian products’ expo aims at letting the Rwandan community to know the Egyptian products.

She said that during President Paul Kagame’s recent visit to Egypt, he invited the Egyptian business community to come and invest in Rwanda.

"This expo has come to Rwanda following President Kagame’s invitation and our business people are privileged to showcase their products in Rwanda,” she said.

"We would like to facilitate the Egyptian investors to come and invest in this beautiful country.”

Omar underscored that her government is seeking ways of cementing bilateral relations between both countries.
