Egyptian Minister hails Rwanda’s transformation

KIGALI - The Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt in charge ofAfrican Affairs, Mona Omar, has hailed the tremendous development that has taken place in Rwanda within the last 16 years, despite the tragedy that befell the country during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

KIGALI - The Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt in charge ofAfrican Affairs, Mona Omar, has hailed the tremendous development that has taken place in Rwanda within the last 16 years, despite the tragedy that befell the country during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

She made the remarks yesterday at Gisozi Memorial Centre after paying tribute to the victims of the Genocide. Hundreds of thousands of the Genocide victims are laid to rest at the centre.

"I am very impressed by the way Rwanda is developing in terms of economic and infrastructural developments. This really is encouraging, you cannot believe Genocide happened in this country,” she said.

She underscored that Genocide should never happen again and that this is a big lesson to the world not to forget.

Omar commended the country for setting up Gisozi Memorial Centre saying that it will assist the future generations to know what happened in 1994 and not to repeat it.

"The Genocide against the Tutsi is a crime against humanity that needs to be fought in the world and make sure it does not happen again,” she noted.

Omar said that her official visit to Rwanda aims at enhancing the existing good relations between the two countries. She also said that she will join the Rwandan community in celebrating the Liberation Day today.
