RUBAVU - As part of its Army Week activities, the RDF has so far completed13 of the projected 211 houses in Kanembwe, Rubavu District.
This was revealed by the Commander of the 3rd Division operating in the Western Province, Brig Gen Wilson Gumisiriza.
The houses are meant for people who were evacuated from Gishwati to pave way for the restoration and rehabilitation of the natural forest.
"We are building these houses in a joint exercise with the community to create better resettlement for the people,” said Gumisiriza at the site as he actively took part in the construction.
"The army is carrying out various activities to mark this week, and trust me, it’s progressing,” Gen Gumisiriza
In Bugeshi, Busasama, Mudende,10 houses were built by the 201 Brigade and 50 in Kijote, Nyabihu District. Another 50 will be constructed in Mukana.
A bridge was built in Ngororero District by the soldiers in partnership with the residents while 10 houses are already in place.
Also as part of the Army Week, 62 people received medical care at Gisenyi hospital by a team of dentists led by Lt Col. Frank Rwema.
Lt Col. John Nkurikiye headed another team that treated Nyundo residents with optical problems.
The army week which kicked off at the beginning of June is set to end on July 11, 2010.
