GATSIBO — A 17- year old girl last week committed suicide early in the morning, moments after being rebuked by her father in Gitoke sector.

The deceased Jane Muberarugo, a school dropout, drank animal drugs after allegedly quarreling with her father Damascene Rudahusha. The father is said to have fumed after learning that the deceased had buried her elder sister’s clothes in a ditch in the home compound.

Sources said Muberarugo had a history of violence and bullying. According to the executive secretary for Kabeza cell, Gaspard Rugati, the deceased was notorious for beating old people and bullying young children.

She had reportedly disappeared from home three months ago; and reappeared for New Year’s celebrations.

On the fateful morning, she reportedly showed her father the hole where she had buried the clothes, then went back into the house and drank half a litre of Sponer- a drug for treating ticks in cows and lethal poison for humans.

She was discovered by her brother soon after drinking the poison but died 30 minutes later before seeking medication.

The police took the body to Kiziguro hospital mortuary for postmortem while investigations are ongoing.

"It’s true we took her body to Kiziguro hospital and after the postmortem we returned it to the parents’ home for burial," said police.
