RULINDO – A total of 14 students from the Tumba College of Technology (TCT) and the National University of Rwanda (NUR), this week, participated in ICT competitions organized by the CISCO Net Riders Rwanda.

TCT Principal Eng. Pascal Gatabazi officially launched the competition at the Institute’s ICT laboratory.

Gatabazi called on the participants at the competition to put much effort in ICT skills, saying it is a requirement in the current world of advanced technology.

"ICT skills are the backbone of the current world of advanced technology, which is the reason you should put in much effort in mastering and putting into practice what you have studied to steer our country to economic prosperity,” said Gatabazi.

The student participants were required to answer questions from ICT teachers, regarding the contents of all the four CISCO semester courses covered at NUR and TCT.

The participants were also required to exhibit their ‘hands on’ skills in assembling various computer components, before a panel of ICT expert teachers, who awarded marks to best performers.

The first position was scooped by Alex Gahunde of TCT, followed by Alain Mugisha of NUR, while the third position went to Norbert Kazeneza, also of TCT. 

The director of ICT at the college, Oscar Kalima, said the best students will be selected to represent Africa at the International CISCO competition.

"The same Net Riders CISCO competition is taking place in Kenya, from which the best students will be selected to represent Africa for the International CISCO Competition slated for July 7 this year,” said Kalima.

Also present was CISCO representative in Rwanda Patrick Ndatimana.
