Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) yesterday joined hands with residents of Runyonza Village in Gatsata Sector in Gasabo District to construct a bridge on River Nyabugogo to ease the movement of people in the area.
The bridge which will connect Runyonza to Nyabugogo, Kimisagara sector in Nyarugenge District will replace the existing dilapidated one which had been regarded as risky, especially for children crossing to and from school.
Emmanuel Ngendo, the head of the village, said that the old bridge was constructed in 2008 connected the eight villages to Nyabugogo and had already claimed the lives of two people.
"We believe the new bridge will give hope to parents who have been worried of their children who cross it every day, commuting to and from school,” Ngendo said.
Lt. Gaspard Karama supervised the activity that is part of the ongoing Army Week which is scheduled to end on July 10
Karama said 18 houses for the vulnerable, including survivors, will be built in Nyarugenge and the construction of toilets in several schools in Kicukiro District.
